A message from Matthew
Your whole journey is one clear path with step-by-step objectives to work through, taking you from your very first steps to advanced playing. You always know exactly where you are and what to focus on next.
Post videos, ask questions, share wins and connect with piano learners who genuinely understand the journey.
Log every session and unlock detailed stats and insights about your playing. Set goals by time, date, or both, and track your progress towards them.
Add pieces to your personal collection from a curated library, or add your own custom pieces to track anything you're working on. Each library piece includes background, difficulty level, what it helps you improve, prerequisites, a link to hear it played, and linked sheet music.
In-depth music theory guides written specifically for pianists. Each one covers a complete topic from the ground up, clear, practical, and designed to give you a real understanding, not just a surface overview.
A built-in metronome, a note recognition trainer (identify notes in treble or bass clef, within a key or free), and a chord recognition trainer covering triads, inversions, and all positions on the stave.
Deep-dive live streams every two weeks on topics that matter to your playing, with all sessions recorded so you never miss one. Plus a weekly practice focus to keep you moving forward.
Structured courses that take you deep into a subject, one lesson at a time. The Music Theory course is already live, building your understanding from the ground up, with more on the way.
Every screen designed with your learning in mind. Clean, focused, and genuinely enjoyable to use.
Ask questions, get honest feedback, and learn from someone who has spent years understanding exactly what it takes to improve at the piano - and how to teach it clearly.
Every two weeks, Matthew hosts a Live Practice Clinic inside the community. Each session covers one focused topic in depth: technique, theory, repertoire, or practice strategy. Every clinic moves you forward.
Members also share progress videos, find practice partners, and support each other through the same challenges you're facing.
"Everything you need to improve at piano,
in one focused, well-designed app."
Whether you're just starting out or have been playing for years, The Practice Room is built for anyone who wants to improve with the right tools, resources, and people around them.
Matthew Cawood is a pianist, educator, and content creator with over 15 years of experience teaching piano. With 144K YouTube subscribers, 25 million YouTube views, and millions more across other platforms, he has built a reputation for making music theory and technique genuinely understandable - without dumbing it down.
The Practice Room is the tool he always wished existed. Every feature in it started the same way: Matthew was teaching a concept, explaining a technique, or helping a student work through a piece, and realised there was no good tool to support it. So he built one. Then another. The Practice Room is the result, a collection of everything he wished he'd had as both a teacher and a player, built properly and kept growing.
What members are doing
In the last 30 days alone
From members and the wider piano community.
It opened up my locked braincells that were closed for years. I never took any class lessons — just by ear and basic chords. Now I totally understand how a piano works. You have unleashed something in me.
This is taking the community approach to a whole other level, with the resources and feedback.
None of that "become a pro in a year" nonsense. Just genuine, useful, practical advice. You're so good at explaining why practice, technique and knowledge actually matter.
I am really pleased with how The Practice Room is evolving. It will be incredibly useful to a lot of musicians, not just pianists.
Questions
What level do I need to be?
Any level at all. The tools, resources, and content inside are useful whether you're just finding your feet or you've been playing for years. Beginners will find direction and structure. More advanced players will find depth, new perspectives, and pieces to push them further. The community adds to that, but the value is there regardless of where you're starting from.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes, completely. Membership is billed monthly and you can cancel anytime before your next billing date. No contracts, no awkward conversations - just cancel from your account settings.
Will the price keep going up?
The current price is £12.99/month, or £129.90/year (two months free). While we have no immediate plans to change this, pricing may be reviewed in the future. If that ever happens, members will be given plenty of notice, and your rate will always be looked after.
What platform is the community on?
The Practice Room is a custom-built app available on iOS (download from the App Store), with Android coming soon. You can also access it directly in your browser, so you can use it however works best for you.
